Lone Star State recognized on EPA's list of Energy Star Rating in 2009

Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth and Austin made the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) list of U.S. metropolitan areas with the largest number of buildings that earned the EPA's Energy Star in 2009.
Houston was sixth on the list, with 133 buildings given the Energy Star in 2009 for a total of 64 million sf. The buildings' energy efficiency saved $73.9 million and prevented emissions equal to 53,400 homes' electricity use.
Dallas-Fort Worth was ranked eighth for its 113 buildings, or 33.1 million sf, that were labeled as Energy Star efficient in 2009. This saved $33.7 million and prevented emissions equal to 25,600 homes' electricity use.
Austin ranked 18th, with 55 buildings and eight million sf across the city receiving the Energy Star rating last year. This saved $6.2 million and prevented emissions equal to 4,800 homes' electricity use.
